We first met Nong Jen in Sangklaburi in 2014, she lives with her mother and father in a small run down bamboo house on borrowed land not so far from the town. They had no electricity or running water at this time. Her family are Karen and living in Thailand with no identification. Her father does some teaching for the local school to make just enough money to provide for the family.
We assisted Nong Jen to apply for citizenship in 2015 and also send the family money every month. Now, in 2016 they have running water and electricity at the home. Nong Jen’s citizenship application is well underway so she can receive equal rights in Thailand for schooling, healthcare and working rights.
We plan to continue to support Nong Jen and her family right through into her post secondary schooling.
